Horsehair pottery originated from the practice of honoring fallen war horses by incorporating their hair into pottery. Native American's believed that the spirit of the horse remained. On the second firing, the piece is washed in a iron based solution and Spanish Moss and then fired to 1100 degrees.
The horsehair is applied at the third firing and leaves its carbon imprint as part of the piece. This piece is five inches tall and four and one half inches wide.
Each piece is signed by The Hairy Potter and made in our studios in Hodgenville, KY.
