Small Rust Pot 4 1/2"h x 4"w

Regular price $31.99 Sale

This very unique small pot was created by allowing the iron solution to soak longer, giving it a much reddish finish, beyond the traditional Spanish Moss finish.

Horsehair pottery originated from the practice of honoring fallen war horses by incorporating their hair into pottery. Native American's believed that the spirit of the horse remained. On the second firing, the piece is washed in a iron based solution, allowed to stand mixed with Spanish Moss and then fired to 1100 degrees.

The horsehair is applied at the third firing and leaves its carbon imprint as part of the piece.    This piece is three and one half inches tall and  four and one half inches wide.

Each piece is signed by the artist, John Moore "The Hairy Potter"
