Blended Horsehair & Spanish Moss Tall Vase w/ebony braided lid

Regular price $195.00 Sale

This is one of our tallest pieces. It is a blended piece of both horsehair pottery and Spanish Moss pottery, in a unique way. It comes with a lid that features a braided ebony lid.

Horsehair pottery originated from the practice of honoring fallen war horses by incorporating their hair into pottery. Native American's believed that the spirit of the horse remained. On the second firing, the piece is washed in a iron based solution and Spanish Moss and then fired to 1100 degrees.

The horsehair is applied at the third firing and leaves its carbon imprint as part of the piece.    This piece is fourteen and one half inches tall and nine inches wide.

The piece is signed by the artist, John Moore, "The Hairy Potter"
